Edward R. Murrow from London:
Sir Neville Henderson is on his way to deliver
the British cabinet's response to Hitler's demands
for the Polish Corridor and the city of Danzig.
The response contains alternative proposals. Murrow
explains how war will affect the quality of life
in England. Russia continues to supply the Poles
with weapons and materials. Though war seems inevitable,
there is hope that Russia will break the nonaggression
pact if war does break out.
William L. Shirer from
Berlin: Just before 8PM German time, Neville is
due any minute. Germany will not compromise and
is on a complete war footing, but the British
answer may necessitate a reply. Ration cards have
been issued and preparations for war continue.
Foreigners were able to get out. Holland has decided
to mobilize.
