1899 Charles Gridley Pitcher (6 images below)

Gridley was commander of the Olympia; Dewey's flagship during the Battle of Manila Bay. A sick man, Gridley was relieved from command soon after the battle, was sent home, and died en route, at Kobe, Japan. Dewey's famous command to Gridley can be seen eteched in the glass below: "You may fire when ready, Gridley."
