of the new technology of the motion picture centered
on scenes of activity on city streets and from everyday
life. and were only 25-50 seconds long. By the end
of 1903, important historic scenes were being preserved

short silent films (MPEG format) represent early American
uses of motion picture, and provide a unique insight
into American life. By 1904 film technology allowed
for the making of longer films, from about 3 minutes
in length up to 18 minutes. Non-fiction subjects focused

and Fire. Non-fiction films experimented with more
