Speedy Gonzales first appeared in Warner Bros.' theatrical Cat-Tails for Two (1953), directed by Robert McKimson. He was depicted as a buck-toothed Mexican hick, with a scrawny body. His name was not mentioned. In his second cartoon, Speedy Gonzales (1955), directed by Friz Freleng, he was re-designed as the peppy speedster we all know today, and he was given the name we know him by, Speedy Gonzales. Since 1999, Cartoon Network has had the sole rights to broadcast Warner Bros. Cartoons. Recently, they opted to take Speedy off of the daytime schedule. Fox News published an article on this controversial decision on March 28, 2002. |
