2001 Oreo Barbie (3 images below)
Some time ago Oreo cookies sponsored a Caucasian Barbie
doll. Eager to capitalize on its success, they next
produced this African American Barbie. While the item
likely did not intend to be racist, it is amazing
to consider that not one person in the corporate chain-of-command
considered the common knowledge that the word Oreo
is a derogatory term for an African American person
who acts like, sympathizes with, or dates/marries,
whites (like an Oreo cookie: black on the outside,
white on the inside). To call an African American
on Oreo is akin to calling him an Uncle Tom). |
