Good News of
1938 was announced as the most spectacular radio
show ever launched, though critics will say the finished
product fell significantly short of the hype. It was
the first major collaboration of a movie studio and
a broadcasting system in behalf of a commercial sponsor,
in this case Maxwell House. The program was a showcase
for every star on MGM's payroll. It would begin with
variety, stories and songs, musical comedy, and behind-the-scenes
glimpses of Hollywood. After 8 weeks Fanny Brice was
added, launching her Baby Snooks broadcasting career.
