Civil War Music In The 20th Century
curve
The Civil War took place about 30 years before the invention of devices to record sound. During the interlude, many songs that were popular during the war remained so a full generation later. With the inventions of cylinders and discs, many of them were recorded for the first time. This section contains popular songs of the Civil War as recorded in the early 1900s (some of which were intended to instill patriotism on the eve of America's entrance into World War I in 1917).
